Critical Elements Lithium Corporation – Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Critical Elements aspires to become a large, responsible supplier of lithium to the flourishing electric vehicle and energy storage system industries. To this end, Critical Elements is advancing the wholly owned, high purity Rose lithium project in Québec. Rose is the Corporation’s first lithium project to be advanced within a land portfolio of over 700 square kilometers. On June 13th, 2022, the Corporation announced results of a feasibility study on Rose for the production of spodumene concentrate. The after-tax internal rate of return for the Project is estimated at 82.4%, with an estimated after-tax net present value of US$1.9 B at an 8% discount rate. In the Corporation’s view, Québec is strategically well-positioned for US and EU markets and boasts good infrastructure including a low-cost, low-carbon power grid featuring 93% hydroelectricity. The project has received approval from the Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change on the recommendation of the Joint Assessment Committee, comprised of representatives from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and the Cree Nation Government; The Corporation is working to obtain similar approval under the Québec environmental assessment process. The Corporation also has a good, formalized relationship with the Cree Nation.

The Corporation is building an in-house team to lead the detailed engineering and implementation of the construction and commissioning of the Rose mine.  We are seeking a Project Control Manager to be part of the in-house team for detailed engineering and to coordinate the consultants and contractors to bring the project to production.

Location

The candidate will work in the Corporation’s offices located in downtown Montreal and may occasionally work remotely.

Compensation 

Competitive relative to the market and based on experience, includes bonus.

Role and Responsibilities

Part of an in-house team responsible to plan, direct and supervise the project control activities in a cost-effective manner. These activities should be carried out in coordination with the engineering, construction, procurement, finance and management teams. Finally, the execution of the project will be within the approved development budget and the Corporation’s health and safety program.

The individual will be part of the technical team, providing leadership and technical and professional knowledge to the Corporation in project control, construction and mining. The individual will be responsible for all aspects of project control, including:

  • Carry out budget planning, monitoring, control and closure of project costs;
  • Collect and enter data into the various tools in order to produce project management baselines (schedule, cost control, risk analysis, etc.);
  • Implement a project control system in collaboration with the accounting department;
  • Carry out the required updates in order to produce the follow-up of costs and schedules on a regular basis;
  • Periodically analyze key performance indicators and provide solutions to management when cost, schedule or risk deviations are observed;
  • Produce / supervise the writing of project follow-up reports, including cost control and progress reports with all departments for various internal and external needs;
  • Ensure regular communication with the project manager and management;
  • Execute project control activities in compliance with the First Nations agreement, environmental requirements and the Corporation’s health and safety program;
  • Support the Corporation’s senior management with excellent project control expertise;
  • Assist and contribute to the Corporation’s development, strategy, communications and reporting needs;
  • Coordinate and support consultants in the execution of engineering, procurement and construction deliverables;
  • Execute project activities in accordance with the First Nations agreement, environmental requirements and the Corporation’s health and safety program;
  • Support the Corporation’s management with excellence expertise in project execution;
  • Assist and contribute to the Corporation’s development, strategy, communications and reporting needs.

Qualifications/Experience

  • University degree with strong project control skills and knowledge;
  • Strong and varied experience (large to small companies) with 15+ years in the mining or industrial sector with significant exposure to project control, construction, commissioning and risk analysis processes;
  • Must be dynamic, self-motivated and demonstrate a determination to excel, a commitment to action and ability to transfer these attributes to a Corporation’s business activities;
  • Leadership and multidisciplinary team management skills;
  • Experience in engineering, project development and plant commissioning;
  • Experience in the mining and industrial field;
  • Demonstrate an ability to meet established Corporation’s goals and budgets;
  • During construction, there will be frequent travel to the mine site to monitor the progress of the work and ensure proper operation of the construction site;
  • Travel for long periods of time will not be the norm, but may be required on occasion. Short term travel will be required on a periodic basis as needed;
  • Entrepreneurial, flexible and creative;
  • English / French required.
