Critical Elements Lithium Corporation – Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Critical Elements aspires to become a large, responsible supplier of lithium to the flourishing electric vehicle and energy storage system industries. To this end, Critical Elements is advancing the wholly owned, high purity Rose lithium project in Québec. Rose is the Corporation’s first lithium project to be advanced within a land portfolio of over 700 square kilometers. On June 13th, 2022, the Corporation announced results of a feasibility study on Rose for the production of spodumene concentrate. The after-tax internal rate of return for the Project is estimated at 82.4%, with an estimated after-tax net present value of US$1.9 B at an 8% discount rate. In the Corporation’s view, Québec is strategically well-positioned for US and EU markets and boasts good infrastructure including a low-cost, low-carbon power grid featuring 93% hydroelectricity. The project has received approval from the Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change on the recommendation of the Joint Assessment Committee, comprised of representatives from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and the Cree Nation Government; The Corporation is working to obtain similar approval under the Québec environmental assessment process. The Corporation also has a good, formalized relationship with the Cree Nation.

The Corporation is building an in-house team to lead the detailed engineering and implementation of the construction and commissioning of the Rose mine. We are seeking a process engineer to be part of the internal Critical Elements team, to coordinate all operation and process activities.

Location

The candidate will work at the Corporation’s head office located in downtown Montreal and may occasionally work remotely.  During the commissioning and operations phases, the candidate will be asked to support the operations team at the mine site.  The schedule and frequencies will have to be defined.

Compensation

Competitive relative to the market and dependant on experience, includes bonus scheme and stock-based compensation elements.

Role and Responsibilities

Part of an in-house team responsible to intervene on all activities related to the implementation of manufacturing processes within our company, and this in a cost-effective way. In addition, have an environmentally and socially responsible approach. These activities should be carried out in coordination with the production, engineering and construction teams. Finally, the execution of these process activities must respect the Company’s budget, the environment and its health and safety program.

The individual will be part of the technical team, providing leadership and technical and professional knowledge to the Corporation in project management, construction, mining. The individual will be responsible for all aspects of project management, namely:

  • research, development, design, detailed engineering and up to commissioning of production;
  • definition of needs, deadlines, budget and workforce;
  • coordination of the carrying out of chemical, kinetic and thermodynamic studies, if necessary;
  • analysis of malfunctions, needs and possible improvements;
  • sizing, modelling and definition of technical and process specifications;
  • supervising tests and modelling calculations;
  • coordinate and support consultants in the execution of engineering, procurement and construction deliverables;
  • creation and updating of documentary materials (specifications, operating procedures, safety instructions, protocols, etc.);
  • risk analysis and security of the various processes;
  • execute activities in accordance with the First Nations agreement, environmental requirements and the Corporation ‘s health and safety program;
  • support the Corporation’s management with excellence expertise;
  • assist and contribute to the Corporation’s development, strategy, communications and reporting needs.

Qualifications/Experience

  • University degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, metallurgical engineering or other relevant field of engineering with strong process skills and knowledge;
  • Strong and varied experience (large to small company and consulting) with +10 years in the industry, preferably including clerical and operations roles, with significant exposure to the mine, concentrator and industrial;
  • Must be dynamic, self-motivated and have demonstrated a determination to excel. A commitment to action and ability to transfer these attributes to a Corporation’s business activities;
  • Leadership and multidisciplinary team management skills;
  • Experience in engineering, project development and plant commissioning;
  • Demonstrate an ability to meet established Corporation’s goals and budgets;
  • During construction, there will be frequent travel to the mine site to monitor progress and ensure proper operation of the construction site;
  • Travel for long periods of time is not the norm, but may be required on occasion. Short term travel, will be required and periodically as required;
  • Entrepreneurial, flexible and creative;
  • English / French required;
